I was very disappointed with the very fine tuning mechanism that can be knocked off the frequency with the slightest movement of the large knob. If your fingers are a normal size, they will most likely hit the grip when you turn the device on or off or adjust the volume! At almost full volume (which introduces distortion), the sound doesn't travel very far. I'd say mixed with the really mediocre sound quality in general, it can be disappointing when your listening environment has to keep up with ambient noise (e.g. a storm?!?) or your hearing isn't what it was before. The speaker is tinny at best. Costs money? Doubtful.
