Unsafe like water bowl

So I left water for my pet but he never went near the water and smelled of chemicals. I also had a food item and it immediately started to mold (which is not normal as I can leave food pellets for about 3 days), the paint started falling apart and it wasn't a safe place to live anymore so I had mine Replace animal in another aquarium
