The StarTech 8-Port DVI USB Rackmount KVM Switch (SV831DVIU) is a great device for relatively large server racks. You can switch between multiple systems and use only one keyboard/mouse and other devices. The construction is very solid. That's a great thing. The buttons are strong, all connections are reliable. I've tried this with multiple connection types. I often have problems with KVM switches when different video sources are required. With a direct DVI connection (servers have DVI), the SV831DVIU performed very well. Results were mixed when using adapters or other video sources (HDMI). Some are displayed normal or with an odd resolution. Some may also have trouble switching back and you won't be able to recover the video. This is a common problem with most KVM switches I've used. However, keyboard and mouse support seemed to work just fine. This is a great setup for certain environments and with some testing and troubleshooting it could be a great product for your rack.
