Great unit, not so good EZ setup

Received two of these today. The packaging is simple, with nicely printed comments and instructions. They work immediately when connected to the network. We tested three lamps in both at the same time, they all work. Enabling WiFi is not an easy task. First you need an application. The best way is to simply scan the QR code in the instructions to download it for your chosen phone operating system. We all have iOS and it was easy to download. Then you need to register the application. At this point, you don't need to grant the app any permissions, although it doesn't seem to ask for them again. If you don't do it now, you'll have to do it manually later. By default, Smart Life tries to detect them via "EZ Modeโ€. Do not do that. It will drive you crazy and you will think they are broken. You want to follow the instructions of AP mode. Here's how it works: 1) In the "Electrician" section, click on "Socket (WLAN)". 2) Enter your 2.4GHz WiFi password (B/G/N). This is done so that he can send them to the device. 3) On the next screen you should see EZ mode in the top right corner of the screen. Touch it and enter AP mode.4) At this point, the paper instructions say to disconnect/reconnect the device. If you do this, keep the device powered on for 7 seconds until the LED on the power outlet starts to SLOWLY blink (2 second blink). If it flashes quickly, turn it off, then back on and hold the power button for 7 seconds. 5) When it starts blinking slowly, click Next until you check Confirm Slow Blinking. 6) You now need to toggle WiFi on the device in your phone's WiFi settings. It is called SmartLife-xxxx.7) After connecting the device, return to the Smart Life app and continue. It will take another 5-10 seconds to set up the device. Smart Life is a fairly common application. App among Chinese smart device manufacturers. This allows them to use an existing platform and not develop their own. Actually, I have a smart fan who also uses this app. Now I've already set mine to Alexa and it's pretty easy. You need to add the "Smart Life" skill. DO NOT use the Smart Life Skill, it is different and will not work. Make sure there is a space between Smart and Life. You link it to the same data you provided when registering. In general, these are the main smart devices. Adding them to Alexa (or Google Home, whichever is supported) will add more functionality. If you're an IoT power user, you can also use IFTTT (but with the new pricing, you might just want to stick with Alexa or Google). They would get 5 stars if setting up the app was easier. I have tons of stuff like this and know what works best, but not everyone is tech savvy. If you don't mind paying more, you can find easier platforms. But if you don't mind a little more work, they're perfect. Ours are used for Halloween and Christmas. If anything changes after that, I'll definitely update this review.
