I use it with my sonoff wifi switch and 12v power adapter to let the dogs out of the garage when I'm at work. I spring loaded the back door to make it open. I start work early and dogs don't have to bark in the yard at 5am. Disturbs neighbors. Now I can open the door from work at a later hour and let the neighbors sleep. The Sonoff switch is only $6.50 on Amazon. The trunk release lever has a stroke of 1 inch and pushes or pulls depending on the polarity of the power supply. Works perfectly! However, if you power it, it will heat up quickly and may burn or catch fire. Relying on Wi-Fi to turn it off is risky. I installed a push button switch (also from Amazon) similar to a horn or doorbell that only makes electrical contact when pressed. I connected a switch between the trunk release button and the positive side of the 12v adapter. Once the door is opened, the switch also releases and disconnects the 12 volts from the trunk lock. So there's no urgent need to turn off the Sonoff switch in the rare event that my phone runs out of power before I can do it. In order for this to work, you must of course be sure that the door handle is not jammed. I drilled a 1/4 inch hole in the side of the door and stuck a pin in the trunk lock to load before leaving the house. When the dogs push on the door, the doorknob still doesn't lock.
