This is my first time using a monitor arm as a laptop stand. I really love it! I can easily move my laptop in all directions. In all the web conferencing we've had, I've been able to position my laptop camera at the exact height and angle needed to give my "frame" a decent look (ie avoid background clutter or create corners). which help to avoid glare from my glasses or just make me look a little thinner in front of the camera). The front pins are covered with rubber-like caps to help protect the laptop from sliding forward or damaging the laptop. The device also comes with two rubber grips to prevent the laptop from slipping when you move your hands. The angle can be adjusted to ensure the laptop is level or if you are using the laptop's camera at an angle ensure the video frame looks level. There was even enough space on the bottom of the compartment to mount a portable hard drive with Velcro so the hard drive is not visible and the USB port can be easily plugged into my laptop when I need to access the drive.
