My first headset was an X-41 which was decent. My complaints were: 1) Dead batteries so rechargeable batteries were a must (another $40 on top of your $200 investment) 2) Wireless is interfering with a lot of signals around the house (especially if you're using a wireless adapter on your XBox) 3 ) High price. When X11 came out the price dropped and I've never looked back. The sound quality was a bit poor, but the slight improvement you got with the 41 didn't justify the $140 price difference. Fast forward to the release of DSS and DX11. WOW! I love DSS and the surround simulation is amazing! Everything I wanted (no batteries, no radio interference) for $80 less (total for the DX11 kit) than the wireless X41s. If you don't need wireless (cables don't bother me, the best headsets are wired) then I recommend DSS or DX11. $90 is a little pricey for a standalone sound processor, but worth it if you can afford it. I'm sure there's a lot of technology out there to make two channels 7.1 (even though the XBox is only a 5.1 device), so I'm sure the price is justified. I read a review here that said switching to a better quality Toslink cable improves performance. I can't say I noticed a difference after changing the cable. I would recommend the DSS or DX11 to anyone looking for a quality headset, audible sound improvement and a gaming edge.
