Review on Jstvro Duplex MMDVM Hotspot Board WiFi Digital Voice Modem P25 DMR Hotspot with YSF Support for Raspberry Pi, OLED Display, and Antenna by Cristofer Cejudo

Doesn't work as a duplex without a big fight and mods and other details!

UPDATE 10/06/2020. To further insult the multitude of injuries, the STM32 chip is locked on this board. This means that you CANNOT flash or update the MMDVM modem firmware on it. Other similar boards have a small jumper labeled "JP1" that allows you to connect the jumper so you can proceed with flashing/upgrading/downgrading the firmware of the MMDVM modem. This board is fully locked and no such jumper exists. The buyer is therefore stuck with a very old modem firmware and can never change it. This product pisses me off more every day! 🤬😡😡🤬 UPDATE 10/04/2020: Duplex mode "works" but not out of the box. Here's what I did to get it working reliably: 1) Run `mmdvmcal` and calibrate your RX/TXoffets (google it). My access point was COMPLETELY removed and there was no sticker on the MMDVM board with an offset value like some "Chinese points" do. 2) Discard the UHF antennas that the access point came with and install good quality 8 inch antennas. 3) DO NOT USE WIFI on RPI. Get a micro USB dongle for Ethernet. 4) Use a GOOD quality antenna on your radio. These 4 things have helped me to work flawlessly so far. But I had to fight a TON and spend more money. Still, I keep two stars. Very late response due to multiple attempts to email the address on the card included in the box. There is also no answer to the question asked on the product page. Don't waste your money as a duplex unless you want to spend another $50 on parts and another week of troubleshooting and tuning to get it working. For a simplex device, this works well, albeit overpriced. UPDATE 10/02/2020: Although this access point works perfectly with simplex, I bought it because of the supposed duplex function. However, after countless attempts to get full duplex, it doesn't work as a full duplex access point at all. I know of two Luddite hotspots and one ham radio and have tried everything in the world to no avail. and I contacted the seller for assistance. It's been 24 hours and I haven't received a reply. I'm starting to think this access point doesn't really support duplex, so be careful. work as advertised and due to lack of support. A simplex AP can be bought for a lot less, and that's basically all it actually does. *** Stop update. ***Impressive! Good price for a duplex access point. I'm really not that thrilled about losing $200+ for a duplex AP from some of these online ham radio providers. I have no problem getting these non-branded overseas versions because they have proven to be effective and reliable. This hotspot was shipped and delivered in less than 24 hours! I was very impressed with the instructions and the ease of installation. I was able to connect to brandMeister and other networks within minutes. I would definitely recommend this cute little AP to anyone who wants duplex at a good price. I plan to install this on a wall mount.)

Pros
  • One year trial
Cons
