Update 8/21 - Bought 63 more for another location. Great pump! First Review - I have been using Zoeller pumps for decades and have never had an "early" failure. Previously they served 15 years, now 5-7 years for a 5-year version of this M63 with a warranty. I have had a 3 year M53 warranty for the last 5 years but I have changed my pumps for the very 5 years. What sets this Zoeller M63 pump model apart from the cheaper and similar HP Zoeller M53 pump is the redesigned float switch, cast iron impeller and base (M53 has plastic impeller and base), and polypropylene vertical float switch with Viton® Switch boot in the M63. The M53 has a lower quality switch and housing compared to the M63 hence the 3 year warranty on the M53 versus the 5 year warranty on the M63 pump. Pros: - 5 year guarantee - Casing, base and impeller made from one piece of cast iron. Impeller does not crack or break as easily when debris or small stones get on it compared to the M53 - Solid polypropylene float - Illuminated plug - Stainless steel hardware, handle and float shaft Con: - Zoeller pumps last 10-15 years . Today they are well within the warranty specification - from 5 to 7 years for this pump. I have had M53 for 5 years. My guess is that Zoeller makes a lot more money selling pumps this way. ALWAYS have a spare pump on hand regardless of warranty, as warranty is what is printed on the box, not what can actually happen. - The Achilles heel of any drain pump is the pump/float switch set. Either the switch wears out or the seal leaks and closes the switch. I've tried the LevelGuard switches and they are also 5 year old wonders and cost over $100. I just replaced an N53 pump with a 5 year old LevelGuard switch with an N63. I always keep a spare M63 pump with the 1 1/2" exhaust pipe glued in place ready to hook up to a Zoeller check valve. This allows me to take the yoke off the check valve and snap a new pump on in 15 minutes in an emergency. I have one too a sump alarm connected to my alarm system to notify me when the water level rises above the pump head, and an automatic generator for the whole house so I don't have to deal with lame and expensive battery backup sumps. I print an install date label and attach it to the power cord at eye level so I can see when it's time to replace the pump If you do NOT drill this hole an air pocket can form around the impeller and the pump will run indefinitely, without pumping water, the pump will overheat and burn out, which can cause flooding.Be sure to post a 3/16 hole at a 45 degree angle to drill DOWN into the swamp. If you drill it at a 90 degree angle or even slightly up, water will splash all over the cover and onto the floor. There are NO small details in the Zoeller installation guide, and the 45 degree angle part is buried in the product installation video on their website. Hope that helps!
