Review on Google Nest Protect: Reliable Wired Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detector - Ensuring Safety with Ease by Joseph Brendemuehl

Installed 8 in a new building - SERIOUS PROBLEMS

I liked the fact that these are smart detectors. I figured they would give you the flexibility to turn off false alarms and let you know about events or problems while you were away. That is, of course, if they work and are reliable. I'm a computer professional with many years of experience in networking and troubleshooting. computer problems. So my computer skills and knowledge are above average. NEST PROTECTS is a big problem when trying to get them to be stable on your network and communicate reliably with the server and each other. I thought the problems we initially had was that I had a weak wifi signal in different parts of our house. (4900 SQFT) so I wasn't complaining too much and expected this to go away after installing our new WIFI mesh network. My WiFi is now strong and at full capacity in all parts of the house. I still get standalone devices that won't reconnect until I remove the device from the software, factory reset it by holding the button for 10 seconds, and then scan the barcode on the back to unlock it Add software (By the way, the manual method without scanning never worked for me so the block has to be removed from the wall and scanned) MY main problems1. Do they really work in a real fire? I have serious concerns.2. Randomly the device turns off and never comes back until I reset it, there are different devices in the house.3. The app tells you very little, so how do you know the connect feature works at all? 4. Device self-test, offline devices never respond? If connected together, they would function like a cheap wired device. The app is very weak and immature in what you can do or see. For example, why would you remove the device from "home" to reconnect it and not just view and edit the settings. (Advanced Settings tab would be great) 6. No direct connection method, not even over Ethernet. POE would be cool by the way. depends on wifi. (which seems unstable) for the $$$ spent, I'm afraid we'll have to replace them with traditional units to ensure our family is safe. For the money spent I expected a lot more. especially given that most of the reviews on the net are raving (I don't know why)
