I have 0.5mm mechanical pencils that sometimes jam so the lead doesn't go through the tip. I used one of the 0.5mm needles in this kit to fix this. First I had to cut off the sharp end of the needle otherwise it would just get stuck in the graphite. After my first try, when using a drain cleaning needle I also used a dab of diatomaceous earth as an abrasive and spun for a good minute or so. Then the pen worked fine.
