When using a sharpening stone, the result mainly depends on the technique used and your experience. When I first used this sharpening stone I used the method shown in the WorkSharp tutorial. I think that's exactly why I got bad results, the technique was bad. If you watch "How to use a grindstone" on YouTube, there are many videos that teach great techniques. I found a video that gave me pretty good results if I followed each step. As I started using better technique I saw much better results even though I'm just a beginner. The removable guides didn't work very well for me, the angled portion of the guide doesn't really reach the stone making it difficult to get a consistent angle. As long as you have a consistent sharpening angle, it doesn't matter if it's the right angle, it just has to be close.
