Lots of features, lots of bugs.

I have ADHD and bought this timer to keep me busy. I was attracted to this timer because of its visual timer function (outer ring) which is helpful for people with ADHD, compact size, metal body, magnet and hexagonal "speed dial" features. I used to use the hexagonal timer and quick settings, but its size and LCD screen turned me off over time. I was very happy about this timer and am very disappointed. It works, and it works better than the old timer, but for the price (I luckily had a coupon that reduced it) I wouldn't recommend the timer to anyone. Let's find out why. Advantages 1) Charged via Micro USB. I hate batteries so that's good. 2) Silent alarm clock. The silent alarm is a nice touch as the shrill sound usually annoys me. 3) Custom volume. See point 3.4) Premium optics (but not superior haptics). Blue lights on the outsides, metallic finish and 4-color backlit screen. 5) Flashes when the end of time is near. That's convenient. Cons 1) Not premium materials: the metal finish on the outside is just what you need; Finished. The device turned out to be MUCH lighter than I expected as the outer rim doesn't look like real metal. I was expecting something hard but like a toy. 2) The magnet on the back is useless. I've attached a video of me using the magnetic backplate on multiple surfaces (lamps, whiteboard (with magnetic backplate), my PC case, microwave, fridge, range hood). Basically it just sticks to my fridge and slides down a bit. It often slides down significantly on surfaces it seems to be sticking to. This basically makes it useless to me. If you were planning on pasting this in specific areas of your office/home, don't expect great success. 3) The screen only rotates for the 3rd and 30 minute pages. If you set the timer for 3 minutes (3 pages up), the screen will rotate so that "up" is the 3rd page. Same with page 30. BUT if you rotate it 5-10-15-25 the screen doesn't rotate at all and therefore "turns off" 120 degrees. This is really annoying when you're trying to find out the time quickly. This also means that the visual "countdown ring" will spin. It's color-coded (green for a long time, red for a very short time), but despite this, the change in orientation makes it difficult to immediately see what's happening. 4) The screen is dark (sometimes). The screen is directional (I'm assuming the backlight/projector is on one side only). With a 3 minute page up (or 5-15), the screen is very clear when viewed head-on or from above (as you might see sitting on a desk most of the time). However, when the 30 (or 25/10) side is up, the screen is ONLY visible from the top or bottom. If you look at it from above, it becomes boring to the point of being illegible. 5) External light isn't bright either. They're blue so should be the brightest, but they're pretty dull. This makes the silent alarm clock less valuable as the flashing lights are less noticeable. 6) The buttons are triangular rockers (odd choice) with the widest part in the middle. This means that the part of the button you actually press consists of two sharp corners, which makes it feel a little awkward to press. I'm never sure where the "gold spot" is. Summary Overall, the timer "works," but for $50 I was expecting the best little timer I could find. Instead, I have a device with almost as many "bugs" as features, and I wish I'd paid more than $20 for it. If you are planning to buy this timer at full price, I would advise you to see if another device can meet your needs at a better price.
