The Sleeper Upgrade

Wowee. I've been putting off buying a 2" diagonal for years. It's not an exciting update - at least I thought so. In fact, the 2" diagonal is just a means of getting rid of 2" eyepieces. Wouldn't it be more interesting to get a new one and buy a better eyepiece? Possibly, but it's a great upgrade in itself. Most 2" eyepieces are pretty expensive, so I figured I'd have to buy a star diagonal first. I was impressed. This 2" diagonal is a significant improvement over the standard 1.25" diagonal that came with my CPC 800. Brighter, sharper and richer in contrast. Even to my untrained eye, I could easily tell the difference. I highly recommend upgrading the standard diagonal to something like this, even if you only intend to use 1.25-inch diagonals. Celestron seems to have put an effort into packaging it. When I saw the accompanying case in a box, I expected it to contain a Gucci bag or something. No, just a nicely made zenith telescope (I would have preferred the Diagonal to any Gucci anyway). This diagonal comes with a sleek snap-on aluminum body. Complete with locking key and top handle. Not sure how useful the locking feature is, but the case is nice - I just hope it didn't impact the price too much.

Pros
  • cool product
Cons
  • boring package
