These leads are excellent - they are hard and have a slightly waxy feel, apply well, blend easily and apply well. Mixing is ok. The leads hold a sharp point without breaking, although they do crumble a bit if pressed hard. Sometimes the slates are slightly offset from the center of the tree. Not enough to break the deal, but off-centre pins are more likely to sharpen and therefore wear out faster. The box is nicely designed and of good quality, with a thick cardboard sleeve on three molded plastic trays. This is great for protecting pencils, although I thought from the picture it would look like old Prismacolor stadium boxes, but it doesn't (just flat, three layers). The kit includes a small coloring book (probably too much fine detail for little ones) and a simple but very sharp thin brush if you want to add a watercolor effect. My box turned up with a broken corner on each of the three plastic trays. It was the same corner for all three trays, although the outer box was left intact. I strongly suspect that the box was dropped, the broken shelves full of pencils pulled out, and the broken shelves placed in a new undamaged box. minus 1
