We have very hard water and our kitchen sink keeps clogging with scale. I threw this filter on the cold side as we use it more often and use that side to fill a large fridge bin. No more flakes, no more particles in tap water and it saves the work of the Brita filter. For the price you can't beat it. Definitely think about putting it on the hot side as well, as it can handle heat. Really need to figure out how to get something similar for the ice maker in the freezer as the water particles have become very visible there. The price is $25 every six months, $50 per year if you replace as instructed. Cheaper than anything else I've found and definitely cheaper than a water softener. But with a 25,000 gallon capacity, you won't need to replace it that often.
