There is a lot of science behind microneedling, but those rollers are unpleasant to use. I think I had one in pretty much every size from .5mm to 2.0 mm. Problem is, the diameter of the roller does not allow you to get into tight spaces, and I could never get past that sensation that the needless were tearing up my skin on the way out as I was rolling it.Somewhere along the line, I picked up a Dr. Pen knock-off from one of those Chinese shopping sites. Even though it was a little glitchy, I could really appreciate the difference in having needles that move up and down perfectly perpendicular to your skin instead of the way rollers go in at an angle and come out at an angle. With regular use, I could really see an improvement in the rather deep acne scars I had. Well, as fate would have it, my fake Dr. Pen quit some many years ago. Then I came across this - the REAL Dr. Pen! This is a new and improved model. It is rechargeable which in itself is great - no more tugging a power cord along as you work. There are three different cartridges you can get depending on your needs, and it has a nice little carry case that stores the power supply and has enough room for a couple of cartridges. The only complaint I have about this particular Dr. Pen model (the white one) is that the numbers on the needle length adjustment dial are too small and light to read. Even with my glasses on I find it difficult to see. Other than that, though, this is a great instrument. Now, I have a few friends who have tried microneedlng, but gave up quickly because they said it hurt too much. It doesn't have to hurt! Pick up some numbing cream, especially if you're using the longer needle length. Be sure to follow the instructions! Numbing is not immediate, it takes a little while to take full effect. Once it has, you are good to go. Just follow the guidelines - it's easy to overdo it if you've used numbing cream and can't feel what you're doing. If you're using it set at .5mm or less, though, you probably won't need to numb first. So, yeah, I totally recommend this gadget, and as I'm writing this, there is a $20 coupon so you're looking at a genuine Dr. Pen for under $65. I only regret that I don't have before and after photos to share. I still have scars and still have wrinkles, but I can see the improvement, and hope with time they'll continue to disappear.
