Microneedling has become popular over the past few years as a way to smooth skin. The basic concept is that you poke your skin many times in a small region, and it helps to build up collagen and elastin in that area that fills things in. In turn, this will make your skin look smoother/younger (well, that's the sales pitch, anyway). Microneedling has also bee promoted for helping with dark spots (hyperpigmentation) and scars.Cheap microneedling rollers are available but are generally not considered an ideal solution, both because the needle direction is necessarily at an angle from the skin surface and because they provide less control over the depth of needling. These pen electric micro needling devices provide true skin-normal needling. Better devices, like this one, also offer considerable precision control over the depth of the needling (via turning the head of the pen; see photos).Early microneedling pens were problematic because they reused needles, which could result in issues with sterilization. Because the needles are going below the skin surface, this could lead to infections. This kit--and those like it--circumvents this issue by providing sterilized needles that are individually packaged. You use the attachment and then you can throw it out. This means you are always using a sterilized needle set, but it also means extra cost because the needles are disposables and will need to be replenished. That's the tradeoff, but for most people, it's a worthy one. This kit comes with a bunch of needles, of three types: 9x12 needle heads, 9x36 needle heads (denser) and 2xnano-needle attachments (81 silicone tips that work at the top levels of the skin top open pores; typically used to prepare for subsequent application of skin products that will be better absorbed after nano-needling).The pen itself charges via a USB cable with a USB-C connection to the microneedle pen. There's a nice little carrying case that holds all the items. The pen itself offers several power levels, which you can cycle through via pushes of the power button. The microneedling functions of the pen seem good. On top of those, you have the ability to turn on colored LEDs via a second button on the side of the pen. The lights om these different LEDs is focused on different wavelengths. The manufacturer claims this can help treat skin damage. In truth, I am doubtful about the claims regarding the light, since the power of the light coming out of the pen is very low. Light treatment via IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is a popular treatment approach these days but uses a FAR more powerful burst of light to attempt to get results from different wavelengths of light. My guess is that the colored light in this pen is probably more a gimmick thank usefully. That said, the micro needling functionality of the pen is good and if you focus on that, and if the price of this kit is competitive (there are multiple microneedle pens available on Best Buy), this would be a good choice
