It takes 2 seconds to start EVERY TIME.
Bought to replace another infrared thermometer that broke after 6 years. Based on hand measurements with an instant read thermal pen, this thermometer is accurate. The biggest disadvantage is that it has to be loaded within 2 seconds each time. Time. She. use. That. what really sucks. Not worth returning but would not have bought this product if I had known.
