Review on Dastool 125 Universal Surface Grinding Tool - DT1701 by Justin Early

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Excellent product that keeps dust to an absolute minimum - 4.5 stars

I am very happy with this product saver. I used it with a Dewalt DWE4011 angle grinder and a Dewalt DW4774 diamond cup wheel to grind down primer, excess grout and bits off a concrete base. My angle grinder's one touch guard adjustment feature made the fit less than perfect - my grinder has a built in thing and I had to whip up a cut piece of rubber and 2 zip ties to attach mine. vacuum hose, but it turned a potentially dangerous job into an almost entirely dust-free project. I was expecting to find a thin layer of dust on objects outside of my work area, but to my surprise there was none. Once, when my vacuum cleaner hose came loose, I realized how well this dust cover worked when a small cloud of dust was immediately released into the air. I would buy a much more expensive Dewalt case (more expensive than my grinder) if it had rave reviews, but it would have worse reviews. I highly recommend this Dastool product for use with a thick grinding wheel - it would be too deep for use with standard grinding wheels. An added bonus was the containment of sparks within the dust cover. But use a serious respirator, goggles and good gloves - angle grinders are serious tools with insanely high RPMs. A regular wrench is too bulky and US sockets don't work (I tried 3 sets I had) so I had to use needle nose pliers stripping the nut some of the insulation. I'll get the metrics in a few days. BTW, I have no idea what this wrench-like thing is for, and I expect to spend some time getting it to fit properly.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Non automatic
