Compress and don't stretch
I've never had such a problem. Run on a warm cycle, these socks fit around the band and could not be stretched to allow the foot to be inserted into them. Unfortunately, 6 pairs of new socks are unusable. They were bought for an 11 year old boy and do not fit my 5 year old daughter. I have no idea what will happen on a hot load.
