I had the smallest peephole and no glass in front of the house so I ordered the next size peephole and installed it through the existing hole that needed to be enlarged. The door is 1-1/2" thick with an intermediate foam core. Use caution when drilling through the thin layers of a metal door if you have this type of door as the drill bit can bind and twist the metal causing the work looks unsightly and weatherproof.on the outside if you don't use caulking, but it can still look frayed if not drilled cleanly.I also added a second peep hole to the kitchen door that leads to the garage.I was worried when i read the reviews of revain about the peepholes where people complained about the optical quality i didn't have this problem with these peepholes and i get the wider view i was looking for ps the price for a quality is unbeatable peephole that works well.
