Review on 🐠 Tetra LED Half Moon Aquarium Kit 1.1 Gallons: Perfect Betta Fish Tank in Black (29049) by Jenny Thomas

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Not durable and not suitable for long term Betta ownership but great customer service

EDIT (November 2017): After I posted my initial review the seller asked me to contact him. I would like to correct my review (I do this voluntarily - I was not asked to do so). Yes the product is still not something I would recommend but if you have any hesitation this company provided great customer service and after I was not satisfied they refunded my money with no hassle. This has increased my confidence in the brand and I appreciate that they kept their word and made sure I was happy with the experience. This raised my rating to one star as it provided a risk free, hassle free and clean positive experience although I did not keep the product. Initial review (October 2017): Good reviews. It's been about 8 months and I've learned a few things that have made me less than happy with this purchase. I decided to share what happened so that new buyers and weather owners can consider these lessons when making their purchasing decisions. I bought two of these aquariums and used them for about 8 months on two new bettas I bought. One of the tanks had two scratches which I thought were superficial but over time they deepened and grew so I no longer use it for fear of leaks. The second tank is fine. One of the LEDs no longer works even after changing the battery. Therefore, I cannot recommend these aquariums for durability. One of my fish committed suicide and jumped out of the feeding hole which was horrible. Another was fine, but after about six months he became lethargic and was not moving anywhere. After a long search on the internet I found the problem. He was just too big for his tank. It has tripled in the 7 months since I bought it. He was no longer swimming, just sadly in his pool (no signs of illness or water quality issues). I have since moved the bettas to a 2.5 gallon tank with a heater, sponge angle filter and thermometer. Within 2 days Betta was happier than I have ever seen him. It never stops moving, its color is bright, and it builds large nests of bubbles. Folks, I've never seen this behavior in a 1 gallon tank. In summary, here are the lessons I learned: 1. If you choose this aquarium, be prepared to change 80-100% of the water every 2-3 days. Toxic ammonia will build up in such a small system and your fish's health will deteriorate if you don't take good care of them. Don't expect to put more than one betta in this tank. It's too small.2. Consider covering the hole above the feeding area as one of my fish jumped out and choked. 3. If your tank has superficial scratches, RETURN IT. They will not remain superficial and eventually become unusable like they did with me.4. The LED light will not necessarily be the last.5. Be prepared to buy a bigger tank. I now use the 1 gallon as a hospital tank and as a bucket for water changes. I just wasn't happy with the care required and the inactivity of my fish. I am not satisfied with this purchase. I had scratches on one, it wasn't safe for jumping bettas and it turned out not to be a suitable habitat for the fish in the long run. I do not recommend this product due to the issues I have had and it does not suit my betta.
