Review on 👾 Adafruit PiTFT Mini LCD Kit: Versatile Touchscreen Solution for Raspberry Pi by Colin Arcos

I had to go online to find out how to install the product and it only works with Raspbian OS. However, this product works fantastic. About 10 minutes of setup and now I have both the desktop display and the console display. This eliminates the need to install a monitor or connect to the system via SSH to perform standard command line operations. The graphical desktop isn't the best (because the screen is so small), but it works. I haven't tried a video of it, but based on the performance I've seen I don't think the video will be all that bad. Pros: Easy setup, good response. After calibration it works very well. It has space for 4 buttons (not included). They need to be soldered in place and then some adjustments are involved, but the whole procedure is documented on the Adafruit page for the LCD kit. Just type "adafruit pitft lcd kit" and you will find the whole installation process. Finally and most importantly IMO, you can *remove* the LCD screen with ease, the Pi will still work. However, if you try to install it while the Pi is powered on, it will fail. Cons: My case requires an expander and I'm told that this reduces performance significantly. I haven't gotten it yet, but I don't think it will be a problem because I'm not using it for anything super complex. Also, it protrudes slightly over the device and slightly overlaps the USB slots. . It's not a problem for me, but if you're planning a dedicated box for it, be sure to consider that. Finally, it seems as if there could be a 5-10 pixel border on the sides that cannot be accessed with a finger. . You can also use a pen, I haven't tried it but keep that in mind.
