Requires a MAPP burner as other reviewers have noted. The MAPP burner uses the traditional Bernzomatic gas source, but the air is trapped in the nozzle, making it hotter. I could not get any flow with a regular Bernz nozzle. As others have pointed out, the process is more akin to brazing than welding; In fact, it doesn't melt the original material at all, the only bond is the rod itself. Using regular ACE Hardware square, elbow, and round tubing (1/16 inch thick) it will only work as described if you read the literature very carefully . As a fairly experienced craftsman, the only real surprise is the amount of heat required: 1 inch square. A square joint may require three or four minutes of continuous heating, well separated from the radiators (vise clamps to conserve flow. Grip the rods in a vise while the rods heat up quickly).
