The conclusions screen printed on the case are wrong
At first I thought the device I received was DOA (never could tell the CPU I connected it to). However, the problem turned out to be that the screen-printed label on the case didn't match the actual piñatas used. The silkscreen looked the same as the device below (with the SWIM pin on pin 5), but the actual SWIM pin is on pin 3. So if your module seems to be faulty, try connecting it according to the version above this picture.
