Replaced an old Cannondale backpack I've had since the 1990's (with the station logo) when the piece of plastic was finally old enough to break. In fact, it was advertised as waterproof. Used the backpack on a long hike over Columbus Day weekend. On Sunday evening it began to rain lightly, starting around 17:00 and ending just after midnight. In the morning the tent was covered with slightly more dew than heavy dew would run off and dried up an hour after the sun fell on it. While the ground was wet and walking on grass wet the outside of my boots, I saw much wetter conditions. Everything in the backpack was wet. The tools in the cases were damp and some of the tools were beginning to rust. The nylon fabric covers were soaked to the point that the paper towel they contained absorbed a significant amount of water. Needless to say, this backpack is on its way to the trash and the search continues for something that can get the job done. gets 2 stars because the build quality is good and the mount is reasonably secure. But since water resistance was a requirement, it lost HUGE points for getting wet in fairly bright conditions.
