This shelf is perfect for the office I wanted to place it on. I wanted a rustic look - something like western chic. It has a very strong leather smell when opened, but this will fade over time. You can still smell leather, but it's not unbearable. The colors are beautiful and complement the wood perfectly. It will look beautiful on different shades of wood. However, there are many ends and connections in the bits, creating a textured surface. Some people may find this a problem when balancing light objects (candlesticks, lamps), but this is not a problem with heavier objects. I didn't have to clean it, so I can't judge how easy it is or not. t.
