Review on ☕ Technivorm Moccamaster 79112 KBT Coffee Brewer: Enhanced Brewing Excellence in Polished Silver, 40 oz Capacity by Raymond Doe

Basically great! best of coffee makers

Technivorm Moccamaster KBT 79112 I usually try to keep my reviews short but felt it required more than usual. I bought this to replace my Bonavita BV1800TH which has served me well for 6 years and 3 months. RIP :'( The new Bonavita models don't come close to matching the reviews from 6 years ago so I just couldn't decide on another one. First of all I have big concerns about the price. I'm trying to calm down because I know like my late BV this investment will (hopefully) pay off over the years.A lot of what it works with.I grind coffee beans (French roast) just before brewing and add a pinch of sea salt.My water is tap water , which is filtered through a 9 stage filter. That gets a 5 +++ for My BV made the best homemade coffee I've ever had. Honestly I have no idea how this coffee maker could make such an improvement, but I love strong yet mild coffee and I got it with BV but somehow it elevates my coffee to a level I didn't even know I had at The Kara ffe keeps coffee hot for hours while you switch to "travel" You brew most of the coffee in a relatively short amount of time, there may not be a need to change lids. I used to preheat the carafe on my BV, but that's not necessary on this one. Yes, you can pour with the brew lid - just twist it to align the rounded "slots" with the pouring direction, just like the travel lid. I got a good saturation of the grist and the right "flower". Some reviewers had an issue with dry soil. As some people have said; Your machine may need to be descaled or cleaned, but this can also be a problem (when inspecting the 'work') if the machine is not level or if the lever that supplies water over the basket is loose. Pay attention to the size of the tank. My BV was an "8 cup" model that actually produced 5-6 12 ounce cups. This Techi model is a "10 cup" model that gives as much as BV. Why did I only give 4 stars on all of this? functionality. For the price I was expecting a more comfortable design. I understand that all parts and pieces help with cleaning and maintenance, but some aspects of the design just seem useless if not downright idiotic. ***Please refer to my model as specs vary*** 1) Thin plastic skid plate held in place only by the weight of the machine. Move the brewer around (which I do because it's so close to the bottom of my cabinets) and it comes loose and requires fumbling to align and turn back on. I removed the plate completely, which apparently serves no other purpose than keeping drippings off the frame. 2) The flow regulator on the brew basket also seems useless. I set it to the half flow setting just to try it and it caused the basket to overflow and the grist to go into the carafe. The closed position I tried to use to keep the basket from dripping on the way to the sink didn't stop the dripping even after waiting. 3) The bottom of the brew basket is not flat. Yes, you can place it in the holder while you add the ground coffee, but if I want to tip it over (which isn't uncommon for me) I prefer to tip it at rack level and keep the mess rather than 12 inches tall and blow the mess halfway across the kitchen. I haven't done it yet, but it's only a matter of time. 4) There is no flip cover on the water tank. It's fine as long as it's not added to everyone else. 5) Removable water cuff. Ideal for cleaning but must be removed to toss the set into the brew basket and then replaced. If you don't remove it, you'll have to find another way to support the brew basket. See #36) The lid/lid of the brew basket is not part of the machine. I don't think it could have been attached in any way given other aspects of the design. 7) The carafe does not have a shaped spout that widens the flow of coffee because it lacks the funnel-shaped direction that the spout gives. You need to watch your pouring speed and aim when your cup is tall and narrow. None of these issues are critical, but it's frustrating when you need coffee before completing the simplest of tasks but can't get coffee until you've built your coffee maker. ** This review is my honest opinion and I received nothing in return.
