Review on πŸ“Έ Enhanced Close-Up Capabilities with Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 & DMC-FZ300 10x High Definition 2 Element by Michelle Davis

Excellent lens, a bit overpriced but delivers

No doubt I love my Panny FZ200, a longtime Panasonic fan. The CNET camera that made the difference. I've found that one area where superzooms aren't great is in macro photography. My skills, if you can call them that, as a photographer are limited, but many people, from intermediate to professional, have confirmed to me that this is the case. However, it was disappointing to get really great macro shots. I bought the Raynox 150 Macro/Close up based on many recommendations including my UK pal Graham Houghton, professional photographer and author of the exciting FZ200 book Panasonic Lumix. The DMC-FZ200 Owner's Manual is a shameless plug for a book, but it's brilliant indeed. However, I had very poor results with Raynox and experienced a lot of vignetting in my images, which meant many hours in Photoshop. I attribute these poor results to my own lack of experience rather than to Raynox's rave reviews. Prior to this purchase I was using the Vivitar 10 x Lean that came with the kit for around thirty dollars. The results improved immediately, but not as clearly as in their original form. My expectations of this lens were low. I had an intuitive feeling that this was a discontinued lens designed specifically for FZ200 users, although in fact any 10x lens with a 52mm thread would work just fine. Surprisingly the results are much better than the Vivitar, even if I don't have a tripod handy it's easy to correct for camera shake in post-processing. I also notice - while dismissing the entire HD feed as ridiculous - that the response time when focusing is faster. This is a good piece of glass and I believe the optical quality is at or near. With a lens of this type and price, all lenses and filters should have proper plastic cases with foam, free of dust and scratches. I urge anyone who buys this lens to ditch the poor quality neoprene case and get a decent case to protect it. Apart from these few shortcomings, I have to say that I'm satisfied with the performance and I give the lens high marks.
