This was a big purchase for me. I've never had a portable air conditioner before and didn't know what to expect. The reviews ranged from admiring to disgusting, and I was nervous when I hit the order confirmation button. Let me assure you who are reading this that this has probably been my highest purchase on Amazon. My form of living is an upstairs loft in Southern California. This is a small studio size room with one bathroom. The temperature without treatment would reach 89 degrees inside. I needed urgent help but still hesitated at the thought of this car. I was afraid that I would get a noisy, rebellious, inefficient device that would haunt me in the future. All of those fears were allayed by the fresh cool air the thing regularly pumps out. Delivery is on time with no damage. can be done in a very short time. (The remote even came with batteries!) Cleaning - I haven't had to drain a tank or vacuum a filter in months, but I could easily do it. (I have to say I shouldn't put it off) Noise Level - If you keep it near your bed the noise can be annoying after hours. I keep mine by the window across from my bed, however, and it still keeps the entire room cool while I sleep soundly with barely a buzz. Talk about something. Sleep mode - This mode lowers the set temperature by 1 degree every hour. After 6 hours it will return to normal settings. (The display backlight even dims! I like it when my room is dark when I sleep, so this little feature was noticed and appreciated. A commendable design feature.) Separate modes - Fan mode: This mode turns the device into a normal one household fan . , with low/medium/high settings. (Again, the display excels with its easy-to-read level meter.) Good if you want to stay cool longer in a chilly room and the performance is impressive. Dehumidifier mode: I love this feature, but haven't used it much. Dry climate and such. Remote control - can be operated within sight of the entire room. The internal display is practical. The display is simple so the batteries last a long time. No problem. MAX mode is when you need instant relief. Luckily, this device can do just that with the push of a button. Either way, Max keeps the AC running and adjusts the fan speed as needed. I can't count the number of times I come after a long, hard day's work and immediately look for the "Max" button on the remote before I even drop my backpack. (As Emperor Palpatine would say, "Unlimited power!") Timer. This feature is my favorite part of the entire device. You can set the air conditioner to turn on at a specific temperature within a range of 1 to 24 hours. FABULOUS! I set the timer for 75 degrees and nine hours before I go to work at 5am. When I get home after 2, the car is busy bringing the temperature down from the daily high. This saves electricity (for those looking to save money) and therefore energy (for anyone wanting to go green, which I was one of) and keeps the room cool when you really need it to be cool, albeit You are out of the house. / sqm Also, a timer can be set to turn off the air conditioning (1-24 hour intervals). This is perfect for sleeping on average temperature days or going out in the middle of the day and want it to turn off when the sun goes down. And the display (I really like the display) gives you a little blinking dot in the bottom corner of the screen to let you know the timer is on; This is great for self-doubt like me. (Me: Do you have the AC? 9am okay? AC: I have it, don't worry.) All in all, I have NO complaints about this unit. If you are buying a portable air conditioner and, like me, are nervous about the reviews you see in all the ads, I wholeheartedly recommend this product for a worry-free purchase. Black+Decker, you are awesome and thank you!
