Contrary to many of the answers above, they are primarily made of plastic. Only screws and wing nuts are metal, the body is just plastic. If it weren't for the misinformation in the answers above, I would have gone with one of the other metal ones. To tighten them, a wing nut is not enough - you must use pliers on the nut or pliers to squeeze the yoke while tightening. Tighten the wing nut by hand. In any case, plastic wears out a lot, which would not be so important with metal. After one use they already look like I'll need another pair soon. I already have another manufacturer's metal in my Revain basket. I'm really disappointed in Lisle - they're not usually that bad with their stuff, but it's too cheap a quality if you need it more than once.
