Good idea, but there's a problem: When you try to use the belt, if more than half of the belt rebounds (less than 5ft when using a 10ft belt), it is very spongy because it wraps itself around once too much and never gets tight. You'll have to stop every few miles until the excess film is gone, and then you'll be fine in the end. I'm not sure if that's a good deal. Because they only come in 6ft and 10ft sizes, they are only good for 4-6ft for 6ft and 6-10ft for 10ft distances. If you need to buy just the right size, it might be better to stick with standard straps. The only exception I can think of is the suspension on motorcycles and ATVs. If you have a few inches of travel I think you can crank it all the way through and the suspension will then hold the belt in place as it loosens over time. With a tight load, they seem to loosen about 4-5 clicks, which is about 2 inches, and then stay tight. Again - they are good when used without rewinding the strap too often.
