the gripping depth is great. It doesn't look much like stone and the wood is a little soft, but it lasted four months with occasional use. I didn't use chalk with mine and it came out clean. I tried hanging it from a crossbar but couldn't figure out how to keep it from twisting. It must be used on the wall. There aren't any holes to attach anything to, so you really need a strong hook or two in the wall for the cord. It's easy and convenient to carry, but I can't imagine finding many places to hang it securely, so just keep it at home for now. In my photo it is hanging outside my door (where I keep it) but DO NOT attempt to use it outside of the door hangar.
