Review on Ulalov Gooseneck Kettle - Precise Temperature Control For Perfect Pour-Over Coffee And Tea In Seconds by Steve Walton

Fast and effective in my review

This isn't the main tea kettle in my house, but the upstairs tea kettle. That sentence alone should tell you how my family feels about tea. It works really well for quickly heating up water to one temperature, which is as fancy as I plan to ever get with my tea, as contentious as that is in some tea-drinking circles. (I actually exclusively make herbal infusions, as even decaffeinated true tea triggers migraines for me, so bear that in mind if you are looking for the advice of someone who uses proper tea leaves.) The kettle is a little more upscale and elegant than the average dorm-style electric kettle, but also has a little less volume if that's important to you. The spout can be tricky to pour from the first few times, but it's easy to get the hang of, it's just a thinner opening than most kettles I've used. It makes a very satisfying arcing stream of water when poured from correctly. The lid does get hot when the water is boiling, so you have to be careful if you want to refill after it's been used. I like that the kettle can go on the base in any direction, so there's much less fiddling about to get the two parts to connect than the kinds of kettles that have one specific orientation. The length of the power cord has been fine for my purposes, but I do always unplug it after use. One of the things I'm really happy about is that the inside is metal, so there's no plastic taste to the water and I'm not as worried about it leaching chemicals when it heats up, which I was concerned about with plastic kettles I've had in the past. I think I've de-scaled it once in the year I've had it and that was mostly a preventative measure, while I would have to de-scale my old plastic one every few months or endure flecks of mineralization in my water. I definitely feel like I've gotten my (relatively small amount of) money's worth, and am satisfied enough to have recommended the same model to my mother-in-law, which is a true seal of approval.

Pros
  • Can be used by both novice and experienced baristas
Cons
  • Might not have a long enough cord for some users
