I bought this toy for my granddaughter's first birthday and I have to admit that I wasn't immediately keen on it as we hadn't installed the batteries yet and it seemed so Could be that the batteries weren't needed - because many gizmos on it worked without batteries. However, my granddaughter Mia liked it immediately. She automatically started playing around with all the devices to see what they would do and so I thought, well I think that attracts a person that really matters! But once we put the batteries in, my and everyone's opinion of the toy changed very quickly. There are so many things about this thing for a one year old to have fun with, it's amazing. Mia is thrilled! She fell in love with him on day one and still loves and plays with him with the help of her 7 year old sister and with almost everyone who pays attention to him. If you're looking for a sturdy, fun toy for your toddler, you'll be glad you bought this toy. It's not big enough to take up much space, but it has a lot of fascinating things that a little kid will somehow instinctively figure out how to "do their thing". I'm glad I bought it and would recommend it to anyone!
