The remote control did not convince me at all. It's not as difficult as the $80 price suggests. GoPro consistently disappoints with a lack of attention to good tech and especially the human interface. It's like they never tested this device before releasing it. Read on to learn more about our impressions. Bad: -- EXPENSIVE: $80! You must really want that remote as there are others for 60% off that turn the camera on and off remotely. - NO AUDIO FEEDBACK FOR PAIRING: When devices are powered on after initial pairing, there is no audio feedback. the camera beeps. - LOSS OF PAIRING: Of course, the remote control will turn off automatically if it hasn't been used for a while. When turned on again, it is no longer paired with the camera and needs to be repaired. Our cameras are housed and the screen is inaccessible, requiring reconfiguration every time the remote control doesn't work. -- SMALL DISPLAY: I can't read most of the display. Either it's so small or the icons are close to the edge and in shadow and difficult to see unless you place it under a bright light and then tilt and rotate the remote and bring your eyes closer to them. -- POOR RANGE: We were filming a ride and set the camera at 25ft to get a picture outside around the sharp turn. Between the camera and the console was a small hillock 6 feet high, blocking the line of sight between the console and the camera. The remote control did not connect to the camera. -- INCORRECT ORIENTATION ON WRIST: Write like wearing a watch, but unlike a wristwatch, you need to hold your hand straight up to see the screen properly, not just your hand in front of your face like one Tilt watch. If they simply added another strap slot at a 90 degree orientation from the current strap slot, that would solve this problem. Another example of GoPro's commitment to the right human interface. -- POOR GLOSS: The display glass reflects like a mirror and you have to tilt it to the right to see the display. A simple anti-reflective coating would be nice. -- NO BACKLIGHT: The display has no backlight so it is not visible in the dark. -- NO INSTRUCTIONS FOR DISPLAY READINGS: The manual says nothing about what is shown on the display. Battery indicator for remote control or camera? A number is displayed when the camera is off. What does that mean? This information is as basic as it gets, and GoPro didn't provide it in the ridiculously inadequate user manual. - NOT FLEXIBLE CUT: The supplied bracelet is not flexible. You have to clumsily use one hand to attach it, not just a flexible strap to slip over your wrist like the aftermarket remote mentioned above. -- STRAP WON'T TIGHTEN: For my wife's smaller wrist, the strap, when pulled taut, does not extend the Velcro far enough along the strap for it to grab, preventing the strap from being tightened. A: The only thing described in the manual is quick pairing. -- OPERATOR FEEDBACK: The remote control for recording has a display that shows the recording time and a flashing red light. Just one beep from the camera to record and 3 beeps to stop. I would like the beeps to be constant when using the camera manually, but this is not the case. -- BATTERY LIFE: GoPro responded to a battery life question by saying it will last 50 hours. It would be great if it didn't have all the problems mentioned above. Conclusion: I've had better, more reliable results with a much cheaper aftermarket wrist remote than this horrifically expensive and inefficient GoPro remote.
