Questionable travel security (handle with care!)

This pocket router was purchased in August 2012 for intended travel use. I used it very rarely at first when I was in my office to connect to our network router to test some wireless devices and later needed it at home where it ran continuously for about a year before it failed was detected networking the router to which it was connected all the time. I used it once on a 3rd party site from a laptop and it connected instantly. The initial setup was more complicated than necessary from what I remember, but partly because this router can work in three different modes. The ethernet cable never fitted properly around the unit (including the cables that didn't come with it, meaning the cable wasn't the issue) and even the power connection was unreliable. The switches on the device are not as durable as one would expect from a mobile device. At the end of November 2014, the router stopped working. To be fair, a family member hit him (but reportedly only lightly), causing the cable to come loose (because it's not tight - had it been tighter the device might not have fallen) and the device didn't land very heavily. more than two feet under the carpet and has not been scratched or dented. After that, only the power light came on. A bad cable and other possible causes were ruled out, but the router admin software showed that the cable was unplugged and the router it was plugged into didn't catch fire either, and therefore it was something in the pocket router itself what's more didn't have. worked (and must have broke in the fall), so I easily replaced it with a non-portable $20 wireless router. This device is extremely portable; However, if I had used it for travel, it probably wouldn't have lasted as long.
