Honestly, this is the only way to hitch a trailer. The wiring harness consists of two brown (chasing) wires, so there is no need to splice the wire between the left and right sides. That means you can run the wires down the length of the trailer, one group on each side, connect to the taillights and you're done. I had a center chase port and used a position tap filled with dielectric grease. For the taillights I used heat shrink connectors and some dielectric grease just to be safe. Made of high quality material, the wiring is very flexible and looks like it will last for years. The only minor complaint is that the white ground wire needs to be about 12 inches longer.
