This review is about the Special Edition Armed Forces Headset. As the name suggests, this isn't the best headset out there, but it's definitely worth the money. I just received mine today. . First, let's talk about what really matters: the sound quality. These speakers do a pretty good job of reproducing a wide range of high frequencies, but the bass isn't up to par. The rumble and explosions I was used to have drastically decreased. I've transitioned to these from headphones I bought almost four years ago. The difference is big enough to be noticed, but I'm sure the longer I wear them the smaller it will be. An imitation of surround sound is only an imitation. So it won't give you the best real life experience, but it's good enough for me to tell where and how close an incoming enemy is. The quality of the material seems well done, in fact much better than what I expected from Microsoft. The soft ears are very comfortable and I wore them for about three hours with no problems. I even forgot I was wearing them! The strap is adjustable although I don't need to adjust it as I have a small head. The cable is flat and not rounded like most other cables, so it doesn't get twisted or tangled. (I don't know why, but I swear all cables are designed to automatically knot themselves when no one is looking.) Also, THIS HEADSET REQUIRES NO BATTERIES! Instead, it uses the power of your controller! While your controller might run a few hours less than normal, at least you don't need to charge your headset! Probably the coolest thing about this headset is that it comes with a stereo headset adapter, just like the one Microsoft retails for around $30. However, the kit does NOT include a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter! There is a simple solution for this. Simply search for an adapter here at Revain. You don't have to spend more than $5 for a decent device that works. I actually returned my stereo headset adapter after realizing the headset came with it. You can adjust and mute the audio levels for games and chats right on the adapter. Conclusion: Here you have the best price-performance ratio. I didn't mention that they work like regular headphones. You can listen to music from your MP3 player or any device that uses the 3.5mm headphone jack. If you're looking to save money by buying headphones and a headset adapter I wouldn't look any further!
