My cats used to carry trash all over the house. For some reason they have a habit of running out of the tray. I had a large rubber mat meant to collect dirt in front of the box, but it just didn't collect it all. I put the cat box in a corner, put an old rug in front of it, and added this large rug next to the cat box. I have to say that it catches most -99% of the remaining junk. And walking barefoot isn't bad either. Much better than a pile of junk. Now no more junk sticking to my feet when I put the laundry in the washing machine or walk by the room - just a random pebble. The only thing is that it is a very light rug. It stays in place pretty well when I put a bottle of heavy duty laundry detergent on a corner. (Remember, my cats run away when they leave the tray.) Both ends are open ended. When emptying you have to be careful not to drop it on your head, but I had no problems. Maybe over time I'll even buy another one and put it right in front of the box.
