This cutting mat arrived in a flat box ok but without the cushion so it was still rolled up. It flattened out fairly easily, but my photos show that it's not a self-healing mat. I made a few cuts with a standard rotary cutter but it was initially marred by an odd mark as shown in the first photo. The third picture shows the actual tearing of the surface, which this new carpet shouldn't have had. I am sending it back but as I like its weight I will order another one. Update: Received replacement in new condition, so fine, nice cut surface. My only real issue with it is the color lol. I thought, This black might be a good choice for a quilting room with so many colors, but really when I use a dark color I can't see the edges under the rulers. I would return it, but it's unique in weight and size - note it's not really 24 x 36, it's marked 23 x 35 with less than 1/4" extension beyond the grille on each side, so never reached 24 x 36 as advertised..
