Review on Enhance Your Craft Projects with the Tim Holtz Layered Blossom Stencil by Stampers Anonymous by Doris Tran

One of my favourites!

This stencil and the Wildflower Layering Stencil are my FAVORITES! I love how they look when used separately and I love when they both are used in the same project. CUTE! I will accept that I have too many stencils. Okay, art supplies in general. (I don't have a husband to tell me to stop buying these things haha) It's the same quality that Time Holtz, Stampers Anonymous and Ranger are known for. The Mylar stencil material is the ideal thickness: the stencil is strong, the design is fully cut out and thick enough to apply modeling paste (or any other texture) very easily. It's solid, as solid as a stencil can be that has more negative space than positive. I've always had problems with stencils made out of cheap mylar - small parts of the design (hanging or protruding parts) will always bend or allow the material you're working with to get under the stencil. This doesn't happen with the Tim Holtz stencils I use and there were no problems at all with this stencil in particular. You have to be a lot more patient and careful than me when cleaning your stencils so your stencils don't end up with little bent bits like you normally would. (Which is my own fault - using a toothbrush, especially an electric one, is overkill in this case. A little.) Easy and quick to clean. Holds up well - image is as clear 92nd time as first time - Mylar plastic does not degrade. Haven't found an art medium that doesn't work well with them yet - apart from using it to add texture, I like to use watercolors on top of the texture paste I use (I really like Faber-Castell's Whipped Spackle - new - accessory for me, it's just AWESOME!), then use a paper towel to wipe the paint off the edges to make the design look like it's melting onto the board. I can't imagine the stencil trend slowing down anytime soon, making them a great investment with truly endless uses. Making art is fun when quality materials are used - and it's perfect for this category!

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Requires a base

Great with embossing paste and ink.
