Filters do an excellent job of trapping debris and dirt particles.
These filters are excellent for cleaning water. I use a thin 10 gallon filter so I have to use two of these cartridges. The cartridges consist of a plastic circuit covered with a filter/cotton material. Water passes, but the filter retains all waste/dirt. After about 2-3 weeks deposits have formed on these cartridges. So I usually change one filter on the 1st and another on the 15th. Each cartridge is 5.5" H x 2.25" W.
