These are made for steel doors!

I included a photo of the end result, but know that it took me three days to get it to this point. There are two parts to this review. To be fair, I will start with the part involving some user error regarding the magnetic function of these rods.- I did NOT read that these were for use on metal/steel doors. Therefore, I was very confused as to why there was no magnetic mount included to get these to work on my wood doors. I wound up ordering (separately) a pack of the steel plates you stick on the back of your cell phone so that it will work with magnetic car mounts. The rods with the drapes were too heavy for the steel plates, and fell down regularly until I adhered them to the door using permanent mounting tape. Now the plates are on the door and the rods don’t fall down from gravity, they only fall when you jostle them. So as long as you don’t breathe on or touch the drapes, they’re not going to fall. The second part is regarding the rods themselves, in which no user error was involved, it’s just an inconsistent product.- The metal shafts do not fit well in to the end caps. The larger of the metal shafts is too wide to fit the end cap hole it is meant for, and you have to rock it back and forth to try to get it in just barely enough to stay - it’s no more than a centimeter or two inside of the end cap opening. The smaller of the two shafts is too small for the end cap opening it’s designed for. One was so bad, that I wound up using glue to fill in the gaps to get it to stay. Given that I was already struggling to overcome my user error mentioned above, having rods that did not fit securely in to the end caps added insult to injury.Recommendations:1. Use on metal/steel doors and/or window frames.2. Only use if you plan to hang very light drapery (like sheers).3. Have a glue stick or some other multipurpose glue on hand, plus maybe a lubricant or oil (for the larger metal rod) if your rods keeps popping out of the end caps. The only reason I did not return these is because we will be ordering new French doors in the near future, and I’ll have custom blinds made for those. This will work (sort of) for keeping out some cold and providing some privacy for now.

Pros
  • These do the job in my classroom to hold of my calendar but are a lot smaller than I thought.
Cons
  • The rods can easily be knocked off by accident
