Review on 🍍 Enhanced Stainless Steel Pineapple Corer & Slicer by OXO Good Grips - Silver/Black by Melissa Richards

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Convenient cutting, but also wastes a lot of fruit. Expensive

I bought this in 2012 and realized I never reviewed it. I've used it more times than I can remember. This tool makes it very easy to cut pineapples. The steps I always do are: 1. Wash the pineapple 2. Cut off the top of the pineapple 3. Measure the height of the pineapple and mark its height on the tool itself. This will help you know when to stop to prevent the tool from touching down and hitting the cutting board4. Place the tool on the pineapple and gently start twisting. Do not use force or you will lose a lot of juice5. Keep turning until you reach the height you measured earlier6. Pull out the tool - this will raise the whole pineapple. Be mindful of every juice you raise. You might want to save as much juice as possible for a tasty drink later7. Remove the black handle from the tool so the pineapple can be removed8. Cut off one side of the pineapple to separate the pineapple rings9. Remove the core of the pineapple from the center of the tool. You can either throw them away or cut them into smaller pieces to eat. They do not have such an unpleasant taste and are quite edible10. Wash the instrument. You will realize how much pineapple is wasted, especially when it is wide. Next, I cut the pineapple skin in half and fillet the remaining flesh. If the quality of the pineapple is good, you should have a fairly clean cut. The ease/difficulty of cutting also depends on the ripeness of the fruit. There are cheaper alternatives for around $7. As long as they're stainless steel, they should be fine. Is OXO worth $21? Probably no. I could buy 3 out of 7 for the same price.
