The thermostat is easy to install but I would not recommend a heating pad to anyone who needs a heating pad that is over 75 degrees. I have a daylight lamp and a heating pad to supplement the nighttime warmth, but in a warm tank the temp drops to almost 65 degrees (it's February in Pennsylvania and the room temperature is between 65 and 70 at night). I thought I would save money with the kit but I will spend more money to get a better lining that will keep you warm enough. I think this is a great rootstock if you just want the temps on top but they are too close to the minimum for what my corn snake needs. Edit: I relocated the temp sensor to the bottom of the tank. The temperature is much higher and is now suitable for my snake. I placed the probe on the side of the tank about 2 inches above the base and the readings were 5-10 degrees Fahrenheit lower than they actually were.
