I received this hammer in 18.5 ounces. We needed a hammer to keep in our kitchen drawer for quick access to commonly used tools. This is a small drawer in the closet and we store small tools like a hammer, screwdriver, tape measure etc. However, it turned out to be too wide for our narrow tool box. It measures approximately 11 3/4" x 4 3/4", weighs 1 lb and has a 1" face diameter. We love that it's lightweight and great for small jobs around the house (hanging pictures in the home or for hanging fence decorations outdoors).The head fits snugly into the wood and we don't see any other way to attach it to the handle.It makes me nervous about keeping it in an outdoor barn, especially in our Texan heat and Humidity. Over time, we suspect the wood may swell and shrink and the head may detach from the tool due to the elements at hand.
