The technique of threading a strand of hair through the tip definitely takes practice. I would say that this is a tool designed for people with a lot of experience in handling high temperature curlers like this. I've seen some come with a glove that you can wear to protect your other hand from accidental burns, which I tend to do, but this iron doesn't come with one. There are multiple heat settings that will take you up to 400 degrees. Heats up very quickly and evenly. Once you get the hang of it, it's really fun and conjures up beautiful curls.
