This is my first L series purchase and the build quality is what everyone says, built like a tank. In order not to waste anyone's time, this review is not for those who want to know everything about the technical details, you can read all about it on the Canon website and many others. In short, the lens is excellent and worth the money in my opinion! It's very fast and feels very DURABLE. Fits like a glove on Canon 30D and similar bodies. It searches a bit in low light, but I rarely shoot indoors, which is to be expected from any f/4 lens. If that's the case, just up your ISO and use the amazing IS and you'll get fantastic indoor shots. You can take great pictures with this lens if you know how to use the camera settings. It goes very well with a wide-angle lens like the Sigma 10-20. At first I found it a bit difficult to use this lens on a circumcised body. After almost half a year with Sigma, getting used to the new look of a cropped 38mm 168mm sensor took some getting used to. I'm a landscape photographer at heart, but I felt that if I wanted to be a versatile photographer I had to take risks and explore other subjects, and I think I chose the right lens for that. As mentioned, this is a great travel and general purpose lens and I really enjoyed the extra zoom on my circumcised body. I highly recommend this lens to you, but more importantly, I want to make sure you first understand how you use your camera (with aperture, shutter speed, exposure compensation, etc.). There's no point in buying a Ferrari if you can't drive a stick.
